Hand carved woodcut prints

Drawn outdoors in Montana · Printed and painted by hand
Wood, ink, paper

Block, press, brush.

Every woodcut starts outdoors with a field journal. The drawing becomes a block, carved by hand. The block is printed on a 1984 Takach etching press in Missoula, and each print is painted individually, so no two are quite the same.

Through the back door.

Claire came to art through the back door: hours wandering in the mountains with a field journal, then a graduate degree in natural science illustration, an M.S. in environmental studies, and finally art school with an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Art. For twenty years her work has connected art and conservation, honoring both the spirit and the vitality of wild and working landscapes.
